“Motherless Child” Official Music Video

The first single from Lovespirals’ 2007 album, ‘Long Way From Home,’ was a heart-rending ethereal blues cover of the anonymous American spiritual, “Motherless Child.” It also appears on the ‘Motherless Child EP‘ released September 16, 2007. Anji filmed the scenes for this music video on a road trip to Sonoma County, California.

The ‘Motherless Child EP’ is available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Bandcamp and other online music stores.

“Heartstrings” Single & Music Video Out Now

Part Dream Pop, part Americana, the new single from Lovespirals is considerably more upbeat than “Brother Against Brother,” the first single. Ryan juxtaposes driving blues riffs and dreamy shoegazer guitar, finding a delicious balance between his earlier Love Spirals Downwards work and more recent Lovespirals work. Anji’s vocals exude the confidence born from years of familiarity with the material, with a lovely harmony of her natural earthy tone and haunting upper register.

“Heartstrings” is a lovely high point in the tracklisting for Lovespirals’ upcoming 5th album. The song is a celebration of the duo’s creative connection and the love that goes into Ryan and Anji’s music. The music video, created by the band themselves, is a beautiful representation of the song, shot during the height of California wildflower season. With 3 years of experience shooting, editing and producing videos for their YouTube channel, Happy Healthy Vegan, this creative couple have created what is surely their best and most professional looking music video to date.

More Reviews of Lovespirals' 'Long Way From Home' CD

Reviews are still popping up of Lovespirals recent album, Long Way From Home, in partial thanks to the efforts of Ariel PR who helped to push the album when it was released this past October 23rd.

Jason Moore of Opus writes:

Ultimately, Lum and Bee are all about creating a mood with their music, a relaxed and blissed-out vibe that should be no stranger to fans of dreampop, chill-out electronica, and atmospheric pop. This is music for both late night sessions and noon daydreams, for both listening to at work when you need to escape the pressure of the day and at home when you simply need to unwind with a good book and a glass of wine.

Miles Klee said in Hot Indie News:

Bluesy slide guitar work sometimes shades over into Santana-like finger-meandering, and vocalist Anji Bee’s layered voice paints bright glaze over already dreamy arrangements. It’s as though the glancing disaffection of 80’s and 90’s dream-poppers has been filtered through an AM radio, a mutation that works by dint of sounding completely natural on an evolutionary view.

From the Green Arrow Radio blog:

More than melancholic music, there is a sense that they traveled with you on similar & familiar roads with the radio tuned to the same left of the dial station in the middle of wherever. After nearly a decade of artistic collaboration between singer/songwriter, Anji Bee, & multi instrumentalist & producer, Ryan Lum, it is no wonder that they have managed to put together an album of answers to questions yet asked with a subtle sultry sense of sound security.

The Celebrity Cafe‘s Ray Anderson mused:

Empty and sad, but of full of emotion, their album Long Way from Home is medicine for those that dig the alternative. How can you take a gut-wrenching classic like “Motherless Child” and make it sadder? Let the “Lovespirals” get a hold of it. It’s easy to fall into the loose, country-tinged groove of “Caught in a Groove” and let your soul be taken for a ride. By the time the “upbeat” “Lovelight” comes on, you won’t mind being “A Long Way from Home,” and I think you’ll want to stay there.

Lovespirals' new album is mastered!

Anji and I spent this past weekend mastering our upcoming album, Long Way From Home, with Robert Rich in his studio in Mountain View, California. In addition to all the great locally grown food and wine we were treated to and the fun time we had hanging with Robert, the mastering came out really well. I mean really well. I can’t believe how nice it all sounds. This is quite exciting as mastering for me in the past has been primarily about trying to deal with audio deficiencies that were in my original mixes. I guess I’ve gotten better over the years, as there were very few such issues. Instead, Robert was able to focus on perfecting the sound, which he did an amazing job of. Thank you Robert (if you happen to read this)!

New song #2

We’re really on a roll this year. Finished up another new song last night that we’re both really into. We exercised great control and kept it down to just over 3 minutes. You know us, we’ve been tending to stretch out every song with long meandering outros and solo sections… Most every song on Free and Easy is over 5 minutes. But this latest one is compact, even a bit spare by our standards. No drums or bass, a minimum of electric guitar, and no full keyboard part – just a few notes at the end. Maybe we’ll put a snatch of it on the next podcast? Oh, I should mention it’s called “Empty Universe”…
