New Guitar Amps

Well not necessarily that new. Earlier this year, at a friend’s garage sale, i saw he had an old 60’s looking fender bassman amp, just the head. Being a guitarist, i knew they were well loved guitar amps so I took it home to see if it worked and had a religious experience despite it being really noisy due to it not having been taken care of all that greatly for most of its life. I got it fixed up and it’s sounding awesome. I wish i had it for the album that we just finished but I’m certain it’ll be all over the next album after. Also, I recently picked up a new Epiphone Valve Junior amp. If anyone’s looking to buy a great sounding new tube amp at a ridiculously low price, this is the amp to get.

Artwork is hard

We’ve pretty much got the master disc together for the new album, but now we’re stuck on the artwork. That was kinda the case with Windblown Kiss, as I recall… Back then, we flew out to San Fran for a whirlwind photography session with Susan Jennings, but this year she has been too busy to hook up, so we’re trying to go it alone. We’ve been crazy mad busy, too, honestly. Even with the last album, I put together the cover only to have Projekt reject (or should I say rejekt) it and had to start over. I was lucky to find a few nature shots alongside the band photos that were pretty cool.

This time around, I think Ryan would like to try something different from his past albums. You know, everything up to now has been an indistinct fuzzy image made up more of color than form, in the tradition of early 4AD and Projekt. Now that we’re on our own, I think we want something more representative of us. I’ve been tossing around various ideas for the cover, but I’m not sure anything has quite stuck yet. Plus it’s been so fricken hot that I just don’t feel creative. Especially not sitting here at my computer in this bright hot room. Yuck. I just pray that some muse appears and rescues me!

Chillin' with Lovespirals Podcast v.3

The third episode is now up and ready to download from the Lovespirals site! Ryan and I chit chat about our recent Pacific Northwest roadtrip and announce the inclusion of our podcast in the both the iTunes store and Odeo. I’m excited that these two services will make it much easier for fans and friends to subscribe as well as for new folks to discover us. I’m not really sure how many subscribers or listeners we have right now, but I imagine it’ll take a bit of time for everyone to find out we’ve got a podcast and start listening regularly. I was a bit hesitant to check out podcasts at first, but being a fan of Kevin Rose, I started listening to TwiT and now Diggnation, and I’m sort of hooked. I’ve begun wondering what other fun shows are out there that I should check out. If anyone reading this has a favorite, please comment back with a link!

Billy Corgan on MySpace

OK I don’t often find points of connection with Billy Corgan, but this quote from a Business Week interview definitely struck a chord with me:

Up until MySpace, my interactions with the Internet were negative. The anonymity can bring out the negative in people who use message boards. People argue, and I’m not the kind of person who’s going to argue it out. But MySpace encourages a personal connection. It makes everyone kind of equal. I don’t have a message board on my own site anymore. I felt like I was creating a forum for people to be negative.

I dunno why people are jerks on messageboards, but they totally are. I don’t really miss our old one too much. Forums seem really 90’s now, anyway. Ha!

Lovespirals Podcast in the iTunes Store

The Chillin’ with Lovespirals podcast has been added into iTunes new podcast listings. Just visit the iTunes store, click the podcasts link, and either use the “search all podcasts” tool or scroll through the music category to find the Chillin’ with Lovespirals entry. From there, you can hit the “subscribe” button to begin receiving all band podcasts right in your iTunes player. You can also view more info by clicking either our podast logo or the podcast title link. This is one of the easiest ways for podcast newbies to subscribe to the twice monthly band podcast.

iTunes iPod pix

Kevin Rose was talking about how they couldn’t get their photo for This Week in Tech’s podcast to show up in Apple iTunes iPod feature, so now I don’t feel so bad about ours. Maybe when they figure out how to get it working they’ll spread the love and we can copy whatever they did? I guess standards are still being figured out with all of this new technology. But I do wonder if *anyone* is seeing our iPod logo or not…

iTunes podcast feature

Finally got around to upgrading my iTunes and that new podcast feature is pretty handy. Easier than firing up iPodder, anyway. Not that that was hard, per se, but its one more step. I am bummed, though, to see that our Podcast artwork isn’t showing up. I wonder what went wrong with the jpg attachment? Ryan put together the code for that, so I have no idea. I hope not having proper art won’t affect Apple’s decision to include our podcast in the directory or not. I wonder?

NPF site slammed

Man, the Neptune Pink Floyd site is still screwy from yesterday. Right after Floyd’s Live 8 performance I was trying to get on the forum to see if anyone was going to post up videos but it was really fricken slow. Tons of people were logged in making posts left and right, so some posts were duplicating and triplicating. I saw one post that the NPF site had been listed on the BBC’s site’s suggested links for Floyd fans. So I’m sure some of those folks started coming over to check it out, too. Then they would see the collection of downloadable and streaming audio and video, (including the massive tribute project, hopefully) and some would doubtlessly start hitting those things, and so I’m guessing the site has been hit just a wee bit harder than they were prepared for. Today, I just keep getting SQL connection errors, so I can’t call up anything from the database at all. It’s basically just the shell of the site coming up, without any of the guts. 🙁
