Pandora Adds ‘Life Goes On’ To Library

The popular music discovery site, Pandora, has added our new album, ‘Life Goes On,’ to its music library. This is a nice surprise, as they had previously rejected our 2010 album, ‘Future Past,’ returning our package unopened, with a cryptic note that they already had too much of “this genre” in their collection. We were pretty shocked that they felt there were too many albums which combined the sound of female fronted trip hop and chillout with the sounds of guitar-heavy classic rock ala Pink Floyd, but hey, maybe we were just ignorant of how mainstream our music was at the time? (Yeah, right…) Anyway, we’re more than happy to let bygones be bygones, as the service has seen fit to add the latest Lovespirals album to their library, which also includes our 3 albums prior to ‘Future Past,’ as well as a 2012 remix EP. Who knows? Maybe one day they’ll even add in that missing 4th album to have the complete set.

Life Goes On Preview On MusicTap

MusicTap made a little write up about our very soon to be released album.

Since 1992, the genesis of the current Lovespirals began a recording career as Love Spirals Downward (Ryan Lum and Suzanne Perry). After four exquisite recordings (Idylls – 1992, Ardor – 1994, Ever – 1996, Flux – 1998), all on Projekt Records. After a short hiatus, the band regathered with a new vocalist by the name of Anji Bee, and released four additional excellent sets (Windblown Kiss – 2002, Free & Easy – 2005, Long Way From Home – 2007, Future Past – 2010) as Lovespirals. After a long, long break from recording as a duo (Anji Bee released a solo album, Love Me Leave Me, back in 2013), the Lovespirals iteration will deliver their fifth album, Life Goes On.

“Heartstrings” Single & Music Video Out Now

Part Dream Pop, part Americana, the new single from Lovespirals is considerably more upbeat than “Brother Against Brother,” the first single. Ryan juxtaposes driving blues riffs and dreamy shoegazer guitar, finding a delicious balance between his earlier Love Spirals Downwards work and more recent Lovespirals work. Anji’s vocals exude the confidence born from years of familiarity with the material, with a lovely harmony of her natural earthy tone and haunting upper register.

“Heartstrings” is a lovely high point in the tracklisting for Lovespirals’ upcoming 5th album. The song is a celebration of the duo’s creative connection and the love that goes into Ryan and Anji’s music. The music video, created by the band themselves, is a beautiful representation of the song, shot during the height of California wildflower season. With 3 years of experience shooting, editing and producing videos for their YouTube channel, Happy Healthy Vegan, this creative couple have created what is surely their best and most professional looking music video to date.

KARMACODA ‘LOVE & FATE’ ALBUM FEATURES ANJI BEE

Bay Area band Karamacoda — long time friends of The Chillcast with Anji Bee and sometime collaborators with both Lovespirals and Anji Bee — have just dropped a new album called Love and Fate. Excitingly, Anji collaborated on a duet with band founder, B. “Naive” features lyrics penned by Bee, who recorded her vocals in The Chillcuts Studio with Lovespirals partner, Ryan Lum.

In an interview with Below Zero Beats B said:

When we wrote our last record Eternal we asked Beth and Anji to join us on vocals for the track Love Will Turn Your Head Around and it was so magical, so beautiful, I wanted to recreate that experience even more

Love and Fate‘ was released March 10, 2015 on Sola Musa Music.

A review of Love and Fate:

With Karmacoda‘s 5th full length album, B has firmly asserted himself as the driving creative force behind the band’s classic trip hop inspired sound. His smooth, calming vocals grace all 10 tracks on ‘Love and Fate,’ more than any of the previous releases. The loss of the band’s former diva, Heather Pierce, is made up for by exciting collaborations with a bevy of female vocalists including Beth Hirsch and Anji Bee, who were featured on Karmacoda’s 2011 release, ‘Eternal.’ Ms. Hirsch is featured on 3 slow to mid-tempo duets, including the heartstring-tugging, SomaFM chart-topping lead single, “We Don’t Have A Lot Of Time.” Long time friends of the band and fellow San Francisco artists, Tyler Stone and Artemis, contribute a track a piece, while the Los Angeles-based Shannon Hurley lends her voice to two tracks, including what might be the most classic Karmacoda sounding duet, “Shine Through.” While it may not be proper form for an artist to comment on their own work, I would be remiss not to suggest that “Naive” may be the most sexually charged of this unabashedly romantic set of songs. The closeup of an unfurling red flower bloom on the cover is apt symbology for the sensual sentimentality of the music enclosed, as well as the rebirth of Karmacoda itself after its own prolonged winter.

“Brother Against Brother” Single & Music Video Out Now

The first new single from Lovespirals since their 2010 album, ‘Future Past,’ is in many regards a return to form for band founder, Ryan Lum. Lum exploded onto the American dream pop scene back in 1991 as Love Spirals Downwards on the Projekt Records label, quickly establishing himself as one of the best ethereal producers and guitarists this side of the Atlantic. “Brother Against Brother” is swirling, ambient, folk-tinged dream pop replete with heavily effected ethereal guitar and female vocals by his bandmate, Anji Bee.

Bee created this appropriately heavenly video filled with fluffy slo-mo clouds and the duo dressed like angels in all-white using her iPhone and Final Cut Pro. Each member selfied their own performance in the video.

Back From Our San Francisco Trip

Once again, we had a blast with Karmacoda! It was an honor for Anji to share the stage with them for their epic remix of “Motherless Child,” and fun for Ryan to do a DJ set for the Harlot crowd. A few of the songs for the upcoming Anji Bee album were shared for the first time, which was exciting. Local friends came out to hang. Good times!

Anji Bee discussed the lyrical back story behind Lovespirals‘ song “This Truth” on the latest episode of Behind The Lyric. She also talked about how the chart-topping Damien.S VS Lovespirals remix single came to be released by Loverush Digital in 2010. Hostess and show producer, Marcie Joy, plays the Adam Fielding Chilled Out Mix. Interestingly, Adam was also a guest on this episode, talking about his latest album. Ryan Lum DJs at Club Violane

Club Violane, “LA’s only shoegazer & dream pop party,” recently returned after a 2 year hiatus to celebrate a visit from one of its beloved founders, DJ Wednesday. Everyone came out, including Ryan’s old Love Spirals Downwards bandmate, Suzanne Perry (currently of of Melodyguild), as well as local musician friends, Drew Pluta (formerly of Arcanta) and Rodney Rodriguez (formerly of The Von Trapps), both of whom performed with LSD at the ProjektFest LA show in 1998.

Special thanks to Joe of Scene Snaps for the photos!
